Hitter of the Day

Today highlights just how difficult this choice can be. Are 2 home runs better than 3 doubles? Is a 4-5 with 2 doubles better than 3-4 with 3 doubles? How much should runs and RBIs matter? Well, today I chose to go with the 2 home runs, and give the hitter of the day award to Strasburg’s Zachary Scott, from Florida Southern. Zach went 2-5, with 2 runs, 2 home runs, and 3 RBIs in the first game of last night’s doubleheader. He’s now slashing 256/373/419 in 43 at-bats this summer for the Express.

Pitcher of the Day

While the hitter was difficult to choose, the pitcher of the day was not. It’s very clearly Harrisonburg’s Austin Koehn, from UNC Greensboro. Austin threw 6 shutout innings and allowed 4 hits, 2 walks, and struck out 9 to win the game and earn a game score of 71. This is his second straight POD award, which will happen after 13 straight shutout innings. He’s now 3-1, 1.80, with 24 strikeouts in 25 innings pitched this summer.
