Hitter of the Day

The hitter of the day is Waynesboro’s Gunner Peterson, from Illinois State, who went 4-6, with two runs, a triple, home run, stolen base, and six RBIs. In 48 at-bats this summer, he’s now hitting .313/.393/.500.

Pitcher of the Day

We’re naming two today:

  • Eli Ellington, Harrisonburg, from UNC-Charlotte: Ellington threw six shutout innings and allowed six hits, only one walk, and struck out five. He’s now 1-1, 2.31, with 54 strikeouts in 35 innings pitched this summer.
  • Trey Fields, from Strasburg and Charleston, threw four shutout innings while allowing one hit, one walk, and struck out five to earn Strasburg’s division-clinching win. He’s now 1-1, 2.67, with 39 strikeouts in 30 1/3 innings pitched this summer.
