Last night did it- all of the playoff scenarios are gone, finished, kaput, exploded. We have four teams in each division that will move on, and we even know the seeds!
Here we go:
North | W | L | Pct. | GB | |
1 | Strasburg* | 26 | 15 | 0.634
2 | Woodstock* | 25 | 17 | 0.595 | 1.5 |
3 | New Market* | 19 | 23 | 0.452 | 7.5 |
4 | Winchester* | 18 | 24 | 0.429 | 8.5 |
5 | Purcellville | 14 | 25 | 0.359 | 11 |
6 | Front Royal | 14 | 28 | 0.333 | 12.5 |
Strasburg has now won two division titles since they were created in 2011.
Remember- all series are best-of-three; the higher seed will host game one and three (if necessary) while lower seed will host game two.
Sunday Night:
- #1 Strasburg will host #4 Winchester (7 p.m.)
- #2 Woodstock will host #3 New Market (7 p.m.)
South | W | L | Pct. | GB | |
1 | Waynesboro* | 29 | 11 | 0.725
2 | Charlottesville* | 25 | 17 | 0.595 | 5 |
3 | Covington* | 20 | 20 | 0.500 | 9 |
4 | Staunton* | 18 | 22 | 0.450 | 11 |
5 | Harrisonburg | 18 | 24 | 0.429 | 12 |
Sunday Night:
- #1 Waynesboro will host #4 Staunton (7 p.m.)
- #2 Charlottesville will host #3 Covington (7 p.m.)
(Even if Staunton loses its final two games, it holds the tie-breaker against the Turks, so Staunton has clinched a playoff spot. Likewise, if Staunton wins its last two games and ties Covington, Covington will still be third, as the Jacks hold the tiebreaker against the Braves.)
There is one situation up in the air yet: Waynesboro’s team record for winning percentage. The team’s best record in all of history is 30-12, set in 2016. If the 2019 iteration wins both remaining games, the team record will be set! (Waynesboro was established as a franchise in 1935.) By the way, the division title is the team’s sixth since 2001!
