We will begin our 2004-2019 league record book for pitchers with earned run average:
1 | Aaron Cressley | New Market | 2013 | 0.62 |
2 | Campbell Scholl | Waynesboro | 2016 | 0.91 |
3 | Erne Valdes | Front Royal | 2016 | 1.04 |
4 | Daniel Thorpe | Aldie | 2013 | 1.10 |
Richard Winters | Woodstock | 2013 | 1.10
6 | Drew Rucinski | Luray | 2008 | 1.13 |
7 | Ben Wade | Covington | 2005 | 1.17 |
8 | Robert Gilliam | Luray | 2007 | 1.26 |
Lance Baxter | Staunton | 2008 | 1.26
10 | Dustin Umberger | Luray | 2007 | 1.29 |
With the change in pitcher usage, it’s tougher and tougher to get enough innings to qualify for this list (.8 innings pitched per team game, by the way). The best ERA for a qualifying pitcher this summer was turned in by Eli Ellington, who finished at 2.31. Jacob Ferris (Harrisonburg), Tristen Bayless (Woodstock), and Austin Koehn (Harrisonburg) all ended up with ERAs under 2.00, but none of them had enough innings.
Major Leaguers: Drew Rucinski
Current Minor Leaguers: None
Previous Minor Leaguers: Aaron Cressley, Erne Valdes, Robert Gilliam, Lance Baxter, Dustin Umberger
No Minor Leagues: Campbell School, Daniel Thorpe, Richard Winters, Ben Wade
Luray has three, while New Market, Waynesboro, Front Royal, Aldie, Woodstock, Staunton, and Covington all have one. Strasburg, Purcellville, Harrisonburg, Charlottesville, and Winchester are all still waiting. (Definitely an innings thing for Charlottesville.)
