Our sixth best hitter of the 2019 Valley League season is also the third straight true freshman on this list.
Logan Amiss, a current sophomore at Virginia Commonwealth, hit early and often for the Lumberjacks:
VBL | G | AB | R | H | 2B | 3B | HR | RBI | BB | K | SB | CS | Avg | OBP | SLG |
2019 | 32 | 105 | 22 | 43 | 7 | 0 | 4 | 18 | 9 | 11 | 4 | 2 | 0.410 | 0.475 | 0.590 |
Among the league leaders, Amiss finished second in batting average, sixth in OPS, fourth in on base percentage, and eighth in slugging percentage. Interesting while he didn’t finish in the top ten in any of the counting categories, he finished in the top eight in all of the rate stats. At the end of the season, he was named 2nd Team All-Valley at catcher, and he was a midseason All-Star.
On July 10, at New Market, he went 3-4, with a run, home run, and two RBIs, and on June 20 at Strasburg, he went 3-3, with three runs, an RBI, and a hit-by-pitch. Perhaps more impressively, he had a 14-game hitting streak from June 21 to July 18.
He batted 85 times last spring for VCU:
VCU | G | AB | R | H | 2B | 3B | HR | RBI | BB | K | SB | CS | Avg | OBP | SLG |
2019 | 31 | 85 | 16 | 24 | 4 | 1 | 3 | 20 | 3 | 29 | 2 | 1 | 0.282 | 0.337 | 0.459 |
Watch for a Valley League bump for Amiss next spring!
