Our 8th best starter in the 2019 Valley League season, Cole McMillan, accomplished something rare: he was one of the best starters in the league without having thrown a pitch in college yet.
A freshman at Houston in 2019, McMillan did not see time on the mound before he joined Strasburg. That didn’t slow him down at all:
Stras | ERA | W | L | G | GS | IP | H | R | ER | BB | K | BAVG | WHIP | BB/9 | K/9 |
2019 | 3.37 | 2 | 1 | 10 | 3 | 24.0 | 12 | 10 | 9 | 15 | 28 | 0.140 | 1.125 | 5.6 | 10.5 |
The 6-foot-4 lefty was the most difficult to hit by at least one metric- he finished first in batting average against, fifth in WHIP, and sixth in K/9.
He was the pitcher of the day on July 8th against Winchester, when he fired the first six innings of a combined no-hitter, walking two and striking out eight. He started just one more game before he left the Valley, but he showed enough to be able to transfer to San Jacinto for the 2019-20 season.
Watch for the big lefty to take off this spring!
