Our 2nd best reliever, junior righthander Alex Hoppe, received several accolades during the summer. He was selected to the South All-Star team, attended the Prospect Showcase in North Carolina, and was named second team All-Valley after the season.
From UNC Greensboro, here is what Hoppe did in the Valley:
ERA | W | L | G | SV | IP | H | R | ER | BB | K | BAVG | WIP | BB/9 | K/9
2019 | 1.68 | 3 | 1 | 11 | 1 | 26.7 | 16 | 8 | 5 | 10 | 39 | 0.163 | 0.974 | 3.4 | 13.1 |
Among pitchers considered for this list, he finished seventh in ERA, seventh in innings pitched, third in batting average against, second in WHIP, and tied for fourth in K/9. He gave up three earned runs in his first appearance on June 10, but proceeded to allow only two more the entire rest of the season, covering 23 2/3 innings.
Hoppe hasn’t seen a ton of time on the mound for the Spartans:
ERA | W | L | G | SV | IP | H | R | ER | BB | K | WIP | BB/9 | K/9
2018 | 18.00 | 0 | 0 | 3 | 0 | 2.0 | 4 | 4 | 4 | 7 | 1 | 5.500 | 31.5 | 4.5 |

He was named to the SoCon Academic Honor Roll in 2017-2018.
Watch for an increased role for the righty with the big fastball!
