Hitter of the Day
On June 15, 2016, Staunton’s Andrew Kowalo went 3-4 against Winchester, with two runs scored, two walks, a home run, and six RBIs. In 124 at-bats that summer, he hit .234/.351/.339, with 12 runs and 22 RBIs. In his college career, Kowalo played for two seasons at Potomac State, and then two at Liberty. He hit .268/.397/.428 in his senior year. He’s now an assistant coach at Potomac State.
Pitcher of the Day
On June 15, 2016, Staunton’s Sam Vincenzo threw a complete game shutout while allowing only one hit, one walk, and striking out four. In six starts that summer, Vincenzo went 2-3, 3.78, with a 1.26 WHIP and 20 strikeouts in 35 2/3 innings. He pitched for St. Thomas in college, but did not go on to play pro ball.
