On this day in the Valley League from the last seven seasons….
Hitter of the Day
On June 16, 2015, Winchester’s Zac Carter went 4-5 against Strasburg, with three runs, two home runs, and four RBIs in the Royals’ win. Carter hit .327/.408/.497 that summer in 159 at-bats, with 11 doubles, two triples, four home runs, and 14 stolen bases. He was ATVL’s 5th best hitter. Carter started out at Memphis, but transferred to Freed Hardeman for 2015. After that season, in which he hit .327, Carter played for two years in the Independent Pecos League.
Pitcher of the Day
On June 16, 2019, Harrisonburg’s Jacob Ferris threw seven solid innings against Front Royal, allowing three hits, one unearned run, one walk, and he struck out seven to earn the win. Ferris was the league’s 2nd best starter according to ATVL, as he finished 3-1, 1.98, with a 0.946 WHIP, 1.7 BB/9, and 9.1 K/9 in 31 2/3 innings pitched. Ferris just finished his sophomore season at Western Kentucky; he went 2-1, 3.04 in four starts and 26 2/3 innings. He seems to have a pretty bright future.
