I’ll just keep plugging away, a little behind… but I can always catch up, right?

Hitter of the Day

On June 19, New Market’s Andrew Eyster went 4-5, with two runs scored, a double, and two RBIs in his team’s 10-2 shellacking of Staunton. This was the game the forced me to realize that Eyster had been drafted by the Cleveland Indians already, but he chose not to sign. Eyster, of course, went on to win the league MVP that summer after hitting .421/.511/.781 in 114 regular season at-bats, with 14 doubles, nine home runs, 35 RBIs, and a 18/21 BB/K ratio. He’s currently at South Carolina.

Pitcher of the Day

On June 19, 2014, Waynesboro’s Will Lowman threw six no-hit, shutout innings against Winchester, while walking two and striking out five (even though Waynesboro lost the game, 3-2.) Lowman, from Kennesaw State, went on to get drafted by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 20th round in 2015. He played two seasons in the minors, totaling 17 innings in pro ball.
