Hitter of the Day
On June 22, 2019, Staunton’s Andrew Czech continued his run-production ways, as he went 3-4 against Charlottesville, with three runs scored, two home runs, and six RBIs in his team’s 14-6 victory. He went on to be named ATVL’s 3rd best hitter in the league after putting up .344/.453/.611 slashlines, with 15 doubles, nine home runs, 47 RBIs, and a 30/23 BB/K ratio. He was redshirting this spring at Walsh, and was due to return to the Valley in 2020… alas, it was not to be.
Pitcher of the Day
On June 22, 2013, Front Royal’s Jordan DeLorenzo fired a complete-game shutout against Rockbridge while walking none and striking out nine in the 10-0 win. He went on to post the following numbers that summer: 4-3, 1.69, 0.818 WHIP, 1.4 BB/9, 9.8 K/9 in 58 2/3 innings pitched. He was the 2nd best starting pitcher, according to ATVL. DeLorenzo was one of the VBL’s success stories; he went back to West Florida in 2014 after his dominating summer, and dominated there, too, going 11-1, 0.93, with a 0.89 WHIP, 2.1 BB/9, and 8.1 K/9 in 87 innings pitched. He was drafted that June by the St. Louis Cardinals, and he subsequently pitched in the minor leagues from 2014 to 2016, putting up 4-4, 3.86 numbers in 72 2/3 innings pitched.
