Mac Williamson (Harr) vs Andrew Czech (Stan)

Getting back on the horse, so to speak, with a matchup of big sluggers today- it’s Mac Williamson (Harrisonburg 2011) vs Andrew Czech (Staunton 2019)!

  • Williamson helped lead the Turks to a sparkling 32-12 record in 2011 by hitting .381/.469/.706 in 126 at-bats, along with 31 runs scored, 11 doubles, 10 home runs, 38 RBIs, and a 15/21 BB/K ratio. Mac went back to Wake Forest for his junior year in 2012, hit 17 home runs in 53 games, and ended his year by getting picked in the 3rd round of the draft by the San Francisco Giants. He started his pro career that summer, and worked his way up to the major leagues in 2015. He has played in 160 major league games through 2019, hitting a total of .203/.282/.348 with 10 doubles and 17 home runs. Williamson had signed with Washington in the offseason, but the Nats have cut him loose. He’s currently a free agent.
  • Czech, a rather large man at 6-foot-6, pummelled VBL pitching in 2019 for the Staunton baseball team. In 40 games and 157 at-bats, he hit .344/.453/.611, with 31 runs scored, 15 doubles, nine home runs, 47 RBIs, and an excellent 30/23 BB/K ratio. He was in the top ten of league leaders in every single category except for triples- he was tied for eighth in batting average, seventh in OPS, tied for seventh in on base percentage, fifth in slugging percentage, second in walks, second in total bases (with 96), first in RBIs, tied for second in home runs, tied for first in doubles, second in hits, and tied for eighth in runs. Woof. As a sophomore in 2018, he hit .368/.493/.737 in 171 at-bats, with 18 doubles and 15 home runs. As a junior in ’19, he upped those numbers to .417/.538/.823 in 175 at-bats, with 18 doubles and 17 home runs. Czech is planning to return to Walsh for a redshirt senior season in 2021.
