Sometimes I get these in order, sometimes not.
But the celebration today is that Joseph Odom (Winchester 2012) made his major league debut for the Seattle Mariners on July 28!
A 13th round selection of the Atlanta Braves back in 2013, the catcher from Huntingdon College worked his way through the minors from 2013 to 2019 (part of the time with Atlanta, and then the end of 2018 and all of 2019 with Seattle), and started 2020 on Seattle’s three-man taxi squad. He was activated last week, and made his first start on the the 28th. (He’s 0-4 so far at the game’s highest level.)
By the way, ATVL named Odom the 3rd best hitter in the VBL back in ’12, after he hit .350/.407/.706 in 197 at-bats, with 15 doubles, two triples, 17 home runs, and 46 RBIs.
Congratulations, Joseph!
