Another day, another match…
- Zach Peek walloped Terrell McCall in his first matchup, as all Strasburg players do. His writeup: “Zach Peek arrived in Strasburg the summer of 2017, just after he finished his freshman year at Winthrop. He was the best starter that summer, going 4-1, 1.80, with a 0.886 WHIP, 1.5 BB/9, and 10.3 K/9 in 35 innings. He finished second in the league in ERA, first in WHIP, tied for first in batting average against (.200), second in BB/9, and second in K/9. Peek returned to Winthrop for two more seasons, finishing his college career at 18-9, 3.84, with a 1.25 WHIP, 3.1 BB/9, and 9.0 K/9 in 232 1/3 innings. He was picked in the 6th round of the 2019 draft by the Los Angeles Angels, signed for $267,000, and then was promptly traded to the Baltimore Orioles. He did not make his pro debut in 2019, and obviously didn’t pitch in 2020, either. Hopefully he’ll make his pro debut in 2021.”
- Adam Parks defeated Ramon Miranda in his first matchup, and then needed a special vote to squeak by Vince Voiro in his second. His writeup: “Adam Parks came to Charles Town in 2013 after his freshman year at Liberty. He was ATVL’s 6th best starter that year after putting up a stat line of 4-3, 1.93, with a 0.952 WHIP, 3.0 BB/9, and 9.9 K/9 in 42 innings. His best start was on June 29, 2013, when he fired a seven-inning no-hitter against Woodstock while striking out 13. He returned to Liberty in 2014, and for some reason, just couldn’t get time on the mound… which made it all the more interesting when the Texas Rangers picked him in the 33rd round in the 2014 draft. Parks then embarked on a four-year pro career, going 7-11, 3.16, with a 1.15 WHIP, 2.3 BB/9, and 10.8 K/9 in 162 1/3 innings. I think he had a real shot to make the major leagues, but ran into some injury trouble in 2017.”
