Welcome once again to Friday! Here’s our matchup for the day:

  • Jacob Ferris defeated Cody Weiss in the first round, and needed a special extra time of voting to beat Janson Carr in the second. His writeup: “Jacob Ferris pitched for Harrisonburg in the VBL’s most recent season- 2019. Coming off his freshman year at Eastern Kentucky, Ferris was lights out for the Turks, going 3-1, 1.98, with a 0.946 WHIP, 1.7 BB/9, and 9.1 K/9 in 31 2/3 innings. He finished first in the league in WHIP, second in BB/9, and third in ERA. ATVL named him the 2nd best starter in the league. He got to start four NCAA games before COVID stopped the season; he went 2-1, 3.04, with a 0.94 WHIP, 2.7 BB/9, and 10.1 K/9 in 26 2/3 innings. It looked like he was on his way to an excellent year. (Ferris has transferred to Louisville.)”
  • Aaron Cressley beat Wil Hartsell in the first round, and Ricky Winters in the second. His writeup: “From Pittsburgh-Bradford, Aaron Cressley rode into New Market in the summer of 2013. All he did that summer was go 4-0, 0.63, with a 1.140 WHIP, 3.6 BB/9, and 7.7 K/9 in 43 innings. Interestingly, he gave up only three runs- all earned- all summer. After the next college season, Cressley was picked in the 26th round of the draft by the San Diego Padres. He spent a total of three years in the minor leagues, finishing his career after the 2016 season with career numbers of 4-3, 3.47, with a 1.40 WHIP, 4.2 BB/9, and 6.9 K/9 in 109 innings.”
