It’s a new week, and here is our first matchup! Stay tuned for different stuff later on this week…
- Kyle Arjona has defeated Jake Ramsey and Hayden McCutcheon to get to this point. His writeup: “Kyle Arjona showed up in Harrisonburg from New Orleans in 2018. He was dynamite in five first-half games, going 3-1, 1.31, with a 0.879 WHIP, 0.7 BB/9, and 10.9 K/9 in 27 1/3 innings. (He only walked two batters.) His games were all in the first half, because Arjona was signed as a free agent by the Philadelphia Phillies- he told me himself at the League All-Star game. Named the 2nd best starter at the end of the season, Arjona pitched in 29 minor league games in 2018 and 2019, going 1-2, 3.96, with a 1.414 WHIP, 3.4 BB/9, and 6.2 K/9 in 52 1/3 innings. The Phils released him in November 2019.”
- Junior Delatorre has beaten Logan Walters and Jake Harper to get here, and, honestly, his vote totals make him the best bet to eventually defeat a Strasburg Express player. Perhaps. Down the road. Anyway, his writeup: “Humberto “Junior” Delatorre played in Aldie in both 2013 and 2014 (but we’ll focus on 2014), coming from USC Beaufort. In eight starts that summer, Delatorre went 3-3, 2.17, with a 1.107 WHIP, 3.8 BB/9, and 9.1 K/9 in 49 2/3 innings pitched. In addition, his .192 batting average against led the league. ATVL named him the third best starter from that season. In his college career at Beaufort, Delatorre went a total of 17-8, 3.11 in 257 1/3 innings pitched, with 104 walks and 200 K’s. He did not go on to pitch in pro ball.”
