It’s time to take a look at Andrew Czech again, as the former Staunton first baseman has not only recently set a school record, but is putting up video game numbers for Walsh University.
Three days ago, Czech set the school record for home runs when his 43rd left the yard against Mt. Vernon. And he added another homer later on that game.
But it’s his overall numbers that are staggering. In 34 games and 107 at-bats in 2021, Czech is hitting .374/.573/.794, with 40 runs, nine doubles, 12 home runs, and 36 RBIs. But as those who watched him in 2019 in Staunton can attest, it’s his plate discipline that is maybe the most impressive. And for Walsh this spring? Czech has walked 47 times… and struck out 15. In his career, the senior has now walked 131 times against only 54 strikeouts. Amazing.
By the way, he was the 3rd best hitter in the Valley League in 2019 after hitting .344/.453/.611 in 157 at-bats, with 15 doubles, nine home runs, 47 RBIs, and 30 walks against 23 strikeouts. And then he went 5-8 with three more walks in the playoffs.
I really, really hope someone drafts this young man this summer.
