Hitting is really, really difficult. Add in the dynamic of hitting at a new level- pro ball. And how about a real lack of game reps after a global pandemic wiped out so much baseball in 2020?
All of these factors make J.D. Mundy’s pro debut all the more impressive.
Signed by the Baltimore Orioles as an undrafted free agent out of Radford in 2020, Mundy finally made his pro debut this May for Low-A Delmarva. So far, in 14 pro games, Mundy is hitting .333/.469/.588, with 11 runs scored, four doubles, three home runs, 16 RBIs, and a very impressive 12/9 BB/K ratio. He’s off to a great start!
Of course, Mundy was phenomenal for Covington in 2018. Named the league’s 2nd best hitter, Mundy hit .353/.474/.705 in 139 at-bats, with 36 runs scored, seven doubles, 14 home runs, and 48 RBIs.
