Results, Hitter(s) and Pitcher(s) of the Day, Saturday July 3

Well, good morning, everyone. This is a monster post on yesterday’s ten games. For the rest of the day, I’ll be fixing boxscores, writing the Hitter and Pitcher of the Week articles, and preparing for the coach’s meeting tomorrow morning. So let’s get going…

Results

  • Charlottesville 3, Purcellville 1 (Gm 1)
  • Charlottesville 12, Purcellville 1 (Gm 2)
  • Winchester 8, Harrisonburg 7 (Gm 1)- Down 7-5 going into the bottom of the 7th inning, the Royals scored three times to walk-off. The big hit was Ramses Cordova’s two-out, two-run single.
  • Winchester 7, Harrisonburg 0 (Gm 2)
  • Strasburg 3, Staunton 0 (Gm 1)
  • Strasburg 3, Staunton 2 (10 innings) (Gm 2)- This one went three extra innings, and ended on a Mac McCroskey bases-loaded walk that followed an intentional walk to load the bases.
  • Woodstock 3, Covington 1 (Gm 1)
  • Woodstock 3, Covington 0 (Gm 2)
  • Waynesboro 14, New Market 6 (Gm 1)
  • New Market 5, Waynesboro 4 (8 innings) (Gm 2)- This one ended on a Paul Winland walk-off home run in the wee hours of the morning, and the play included a dive over the fence by right fielder Kyle Murphy to attempt to keep the game rolling.

Hitters of the Day

Since there were twice the games last night, we’ll name two hitters of the day:

  • Charlottesville’s Garrett Spikes, from Georgia, went 3-5 in game one, with two runs scored, a home run, stolen base, and three RBIs. He’s now hitting .259/.295/.414 in 58 at-bats, with nine runs, three doubles, two home runs, 11 RBIs, and six stolen bases.
  • Secondly, we have Winchester’s Nate Furman, from UNC Charlotte, who went 4-4 in the Royals’ game one victory. He added two runs, a walk, double, and stolen base. He’s now hitting .409/.552/.545 in 44 at-bats, with 12 runs scored, three doubles, one home run, 11 RBIs, a 12/7 BB/K, and 10 stolen bases.

Pitcher(s) of the Day

Again, we’ll post two:

  • Our first POD is Strasburg’s Jacob Cravey, from Samford. Cravey threw six shutout innings while allowing three hits, two walks, and striking out nine. He earned the win and a game score of 73. He’s now 2-1, 1.52 in 17 2/3 innings, along with only six walks and 20 K’s.
  • The second is Woodstock’s Nicolas Regalado, from Miami, who fired his own six shutout innings, allowing two hits, one walk, and striking out eight. He also earned the win and a slightly higher game score, at 75. He’s 2-0, 2.20, with five walks and 25 K’s in 16 1/3 summer innings.
