Let’s report on the last two games of the regular season, held Saturday afternoon and early evening:
Results
Game 1- Winchester 7, Purcellville 1
Led by a strong five innings on the mound by Christopher Quijano, the Royals battered the Cannons in game one. Quijano made an early bid to join his brother as the first no-hitters thrown by brothers in Valley League memory, as he didn’t give up a hit until the fifth inning, but it was not to be (probably because I started to text Joe about it). Ramses Cordova and Austin Turner were the offensive stars, as Cordova went 4-5 with a double and three stolen bases, and Turner went 3-3 with a walk and his own stolen base.
Game 2- Purcellville 4, Winchester 3
Brady Drawbaugh had two hits, two RBIs, and two stolen bases, Nick Palumbo added two hits and a stolen base, and Michael Grupe threw two shutout innings to close this one out and earn the save. With the split, the Cannons end the season at 12-29, while the 3rd-seeded Winchester Royals finish up at 22-19, and now turn their attention to Woodstock in the first round of the North playoffs, beginning tomorrow.
Now we all turn to the playoffs!
