We begin our 2021 top hitters list with #15, Front Royal’s Trent Jeffcoat!
A sophomore at Tallahassee Community College, Jeffcoat hit .324/.408/.434 in 1456 at-bats for the Cardinals this summer. He added 30 runs scored, 10 doubles, two home runs, 20 RBIs, a solid 21/33 BB/K ratio, and 15 stolen bases. While he was not selected for the All-Star game, he had the last laugh, as the league voted him first team All-Valley League at shortstop at the end of the season.
Jeffcoat’s best games were a two-out-of-three stretch in late June and early July. On June 29, he went 4-5 at home against Winchester, along with four runs scored, two doubles, and two RBIs. Six days later, after an 0-3 in between, against Winchester but this time away, Jeffcoat went 5-6, with three runs, a double, and an RBI. His average went from .268 to .329 in the span of three games. On top of that, he also had a ten game hitting streak between July 12 and July 21.
As what is often the case with the top hitters in the league, Jeffcoat has also performed exceedingly well in college. In 2020, as a freshman at Tallahassee, he hit .358/.427/.368 in 95 at-bats, with a double, 13 RBIs, 20 runs, 11/14 BB/K, and 14 stolen bases. As a sophomore, though, he really flourished, hitting .368/.444/.441, with 31 runs scored, six doubles, a triple, home run, 24 RBIs, 17/31 BB/K, and 21 stolen bases.
As of this writing, it is unclear where he will attend this fall, but one thing is for sure- he’ll hit well when the games start!
