Today we have one of the best in terms of getting on base in the 2021 Valley League- Front Royal’s Niko Amory!

Amory hit .349/.509/.581 in 86 summer at-bats, with 19 runs scored, 11 doubles, three home runs, 15 RBIs, an outstanding 26/22 BB/K ratio, and even four stolen bases without being caught. He finished sixth in the league in batting average, fifth in OPS, second in on-base percentage (and ninth since 1994), eighth in slugging percentage, third in walks, and second in doubles. He was an All-Star, and was named second team All-Valley League at catcher at the end of the year (behind Will Long).

He bookended his summer nicely; his two best games were right in the beginning and right at the end. On June 6, his second game in the Valley, Amory went 2-4 against Staunton, with two runs, two home runs, and three RBIs. And then on July 17, not quite at the end, he went 3-3 against Purcellville, with two runs, two doubles, two RBIs, and a walk. Four days later, on July 21, his last day, he was hitter of the day after going 3-4, with two runs and two doubles.

Amory is heading into his fourth season at Marist. In 2019, he hit .221/.308/.292 in 113 at bats as a freshman. In the shortened 2020, he went 7-29, but then went off in his full 2021 season, slashing .329/.447/.529 in 70 at-bats, with two doubles, four home runs, 16 RBIs and a 14/21 BB/K ratio.

Watch for more solid hitting in 2022!
