Two former Valley Leaguers have been named a prospect of the year in their respective organizations by mlb.com.

First of all, Romy Gonzalez (Staunton 2016) was named the hitting prospect of the year for the Chicago White Sox. Gonzalez was not considered a “top prospect” going into 2021, but he exploded through the system, leading Double-A South with a .856 OPS and making his major league debut in September.

Secondly, Graham Ashcraft (Waynesboro 2018) was named the pitcher of the year for the Cincinnati Reds. Combined over High-A and Double-A this summer, Ashcraft went 11-4, 3.00 in 111 innings, with 37 walks and 129 strikeouts.

Congratulations to both!
