D1baseball.com ranks the top college players at each position during each preseason, combining factors like talent, past performance (including summer leagues), defensive ability and makeup to come up with, roughly, the top 15% of dudes at each spot on the diamond. So, of course, ATVL will keep an eye out for former Valley Leaguers who make the lists.
Today, we’ll start with catcher, where a former Waynesboro General made the list at #32: Alonzo Rubalcaba, from Kentucky. After two seasons at Santa Barbara City College, Rubalcaba transferred to Kentucky in 2021, when he hit .283/.382/.326 in 46 at-bats.
He came to Waynesboro last summer, where he hit .344/.425/.594 in nine regular season games and 32 at-bats, along with a triple, two home runs, and eight RBIs. He also went 4-24 in six playoff games.
We’ll keep an eye on him this spring!
