Griffin Cheney has played for Georgia State since 2018- five seasons now. Over his first four years, he hit six total home runs in 471 at-bats. Yesterday, in a fit of power never before seen in the 22 year old infielder, Cheney ripped three home runs at Clemson’s Doug Kingsmore Stadium- with the third actually leaving the stadium altogether! He accounted for four of Georgia State’s runs in the team’s 6-1 victory, and tied the school record for home runs in a single game.
His explosion has not been limited to yesterday’s contest either; the former Strasburg Express (2018-19) is hitting .458/.560/.915 in 59 at-bats so far this spring, with 19 runs scored, 16 RBIs, three doubles, eight home runs, six stolen bases, and 14 walks against only 10 strikeouts.
Cheney hit .289/.406/.373 for the Express in 2018, with four doubles and one home run. The next summer, he hit .239/.386/.368 in 117 regular season at-bats, with six doubles and three home runs, and went 9-27 with another home run in the playoffs.

Happened to see Griffin Cheney’s eruption against Clemson. That final blast was a marvel. His awesome season stats prove Tuesday wasn’t a fluke. Clemson was 14-1 going in to that contest. Cheney’s clearly found the golden grove. Hope he keeps it
