D1baseball.com compiles some interesting lists. One of them compiles the college hurlers who throw the hardest (no Valley Leaguers made that list).

But the “Top Strike Throwers” list- now, that one has a couple former VBLers on it! (They list the players in order of BB/9.)

  • #8 on the list is Middle Tennessee State’s Peyton Wigginton (Staunton 2018), who has walked only two batters in 27 innings this spring. He’s 2-2, 4.00 in those 27 innings, with 25 K’s. Wigginton started three games for Staunton in 2018, and completed 10 innings.
  • #23 is JMU’s Ryan Murphy (Front Royal 2021), who has two walks in 20 innings. He’s 1-0, 2.25, with 18 K’s. Murphy threw 35 2/3 innings last summer for the Cardinals- he went 3-2, 6.30 with 23 K’s. I got a chance to watch him pitch about 10 days ago against Virginia Tech, and he was quite impressive!
