Next up: Ivanniel Vazquez, from Waynesboro and Alabama State! (Sometimes I think the entire Alabama State roster played in the Valley League in 2016.)
Our #14 reliever went 1-2, 2.25, with a 1.202 WHIP, 2.5 BB/9, and 5.9 K/9 in 18 1/3 innings pitched for the Generals. The 5-foot-7 lefty from Puerto Rico also threw a shutout inning in the All-Star game.
He’s pitched for 2 years in college so far. In 2015, as a freshman, Ivanniel went 0-0, 4.80 in 10 appearances out of the bullpen, covering 15 innings. In 2016, he appeared in 9 games but only pitched 6 innings, giving up 4 hits, 3 earned runs, 4 walks, and striking out 7.
Congratulations on your excellent summer, Ivanniel, and good luck this spring for the Hornets!
