Well, that didn’t take long.
As expected, Ryan Yarbrough (Luray 2012) has made his major league debut… in Tampa Bay’s third game of the 2018 season against the Boston Red Sox on Saturday night. He started off well, too; Ryan threw 4 innings in relief, allowing 4 hits, 1 earned run, 3 walks, and struck out 3.
A 4th round draft pick in 2014, Ryan worked his way, step by step, through first Seattle’s system, then after a trade in January of 2017, Tampa Bay’s- or, at least, Triple-A in the Rays’ organization.
Ryan was ATVL’s short season A-ball pitcher of the year in 2014, Double-A pitcher of the year in 2016, and Triple-A POY in 2017. (And early leader for 2018 major league POY?)
According to my records, Ryan is the 207th major leaguer from the Valley League, and according to baseball-reference.com, the 19,188th player in all of history. (Alphabetically, he slots between Alex Wimmers (Luray 2008) and Brad Ziegler (New Market 2000).)
