Major League Record Book: Career WAR (Pitchers Edition)

Who have been the most valuable pitchers over their major league careers? Take a walk through this memory lane….

2006-2017
1 Will Harris Staunton ’03 5.2
2 Chris Devenski Woodstock ’11 4.6
3 Chris Perez Staunton ’04 4.4
4 Tyler Thornburg Winchester ’08 4.2
5 Brandon Beachy Woodstock ’08 3.1
6 Chad Kuhl New Market ’12 2.6
7 David Carpenter Covington ’04 2.0
8 Josh Edgin Winchester ’07 1.7
9 Robby Scott Covington ’10 0.8
10 Adam Liberatore Waynesboro ’07-8 0.7
Emilio Pagan Harrisonburg ’10 0.7
12 Jack Leathersich Haymarket ’09 0.4
Kyle McGrath Staunton ’11 0.4

Pretty interesting list… Staunton has 3 of the spots, Woodstock, Covington and Winchester have 2, and Harrisonburg, Waynesboro, New Market and Haymarket all have 1.

Perez and Beachy are the only pitchers on this list, as well, who are not active. So this might get rearranged rather significantly in 2018, especially as McGrath and Pagan made their MLB debuts in 2017, and were worth quite a bit!

All-Time

Four of these guys are active: Ziegler, Harris, Devenski, and Thornburg.

Staunton has 5 spots, Front Royal and New Market each have 4, Winchester, Charlottesville and Harrisonburg have 2, and Madison and Woodstock each have 1.

Next we will turn our attention to the seasonal bests!
