Checking in on 2017 Top Relievers

Like we’ve done for the hitters and starters, it’s time to take a peek at how the top relievers from the 2017 Valley League season are faring in their college seasons!

  3. Josh Andrews, Grand Canyon (Front Royal): Josh, in 9 2/3 innings, is 1-0, 4.66, with a 1.856 WHIP, 10.2 BB/9, and 12.1 K/9.

  6. Carson Gregory, Winthrop (New Market): Carson has thrown only 6 2/3 innings, and has gone 0-0, 4.05, with a 1.343 WHIP, 5.4 BB/9, and 12.1 K/9.
  7. Parker Dyson, West Liberty (Purcellville): Parker has started 6 games so far, and has gone an excellent 2-3, 2.19, with a 1.108 WHIP, 4.4 BB/9, and 10.7 K/9 in 37 innings.
  8. Jonathon Murphy, West Virginia State (Woodstock): Jonathon has not pitched for WV State in 2018.
  9. Thomas Nicoll, Florida A&M (Strasburg): Thomas has started 7 games so far; he’s 1-6, 4.53 in 45 2/3 innings, with a 1.291 WHIP, 1.8 BB/9, and 9.5 K/9.
  10. Davis Kirkpatrick, East Carolina (Harrisonburg): Davis is 1-0, 1.17 in 14 games and 15 1/3 innings, along with a 1.373 WHIP, 4.1 BB/9, and 7.6 K/9. He also has a save.
  11. Jaret LaCagnina, Davidson (Winchester): Jaret, who is returning to the Valley in 2018 as a member of the Tom Sox, is 0-4, 5.25, with a 1.583 WHIP, 5.6 BB/9, and 10.5 K/9 in 24 innings pitched.
  12. Layne Looney, Richmond (Charlottesville): Layne’s statline(s) is really weird on Richmond’s website. He has TWO lines, actually. I don’t know if one is correct and the other incorrect, or if both are wrong, or if they need to be added together to get the correct stats. If they need to be added together, he’s given up 15 hits, 5 walks, and 2 earned runs along with 25 strikeouts in 15 1/3 innings.
  13. Trevor Harris, Baylor (Front Royal): Trevor is not listed on Baylor’s roster, and I can find no evidence of a transfer or injury.
  14. Hunter Fillingim, Florida A&M (Winchester): Hunter has pitched 2 innings so far, without giving up a run.
  15. Tyler Swiggart, George Washington (Winchester): In 27 innings, Tyler is 3-2, 5.00, with a 1.222 WHIP, 1.3 BB/9, and 6.3 K/9.
