A Rule 5 pick from the Texas Rangers, Garrett impressed enough in spring training with his mid-90’s fastball and above-average slider to make the squad heading north. (He struck out 11 in 10 1/3 innings in S.T.)
He pitched a clean ninth inning last night against the Toronto Blue Jays- no runs, hits, or walks- and struck out his first major league batter.
Reed was picked in the 16th round of the 2014 draft by the Texas Rangers, and was the closer in Double-A Frisco and Triple-A Round Rock the past two years. He is the 8th Valley Leaguer to make the majors from that draft class, and the first Rebel to make the majors since Chad Kuhl made his debut in 2016 (Kuhl was a 2012 Rebel).
