Spotlight on Ching, Wilkes, and Griswold

I am amazed again. Day after day, former Valley Leaguers put up excellent stats for their college teams.

So yesterday was no different. We’ll focus on three guys, but others who had good days are listed below:

  • VCU’s Zac Ching (Charlottesville 2018) hit for the cycle in VCU’s 28-4 shellacking of La Salle. He went 4-4, with 5 runs, 3 RBIs, a walk, and….. a double, triple, home run…. and single. The senior shortstop is now hitting 353/388/478 in 32 games and 136 at-bats, with 14 doubles, 2 triples, 5 home runs, 35 RBIs, and a 18/25 BB/K ratio. He leads the Rams in slugging percentage, hits, doubles, home runs, and RBIs.
  • Bethune Cookman’s Brandon Wilkes (Staunton 2018) pulled double duty for his team against Savannah State. At the dish, he went 1-1, with a run, 3 walks, and 3 RBIs. Then he moved to the mound, and threw two shutout innings to end the game, allowing 2 hits, 0 walks, and striking out 3. He was assigned his 4th save. Brandon is hitting 322/388/478 in 90 at-bats, and is 2-0, 2.42, with a 1.18 WHIP, 2.8 BB/9, and 9.3 K/9 in 22 1/3 innings pitched.
  • Rob Griswold (Front Royal 2018) went 4-4 for Long Island yesterday, with a run, walk, and double. He’s now hitting 287/370/330 in 94 at-bats, and is 2-4, 2.21, with a 1.13 WHIP, 3.1 BB/9, and 10.6 K/9 in 20 1/3 innings on the mound.
