Morgan, Wingo, Charleston… Oh My!

Most Division I teams are gearing up for conference tournaments, which apparently included a tune-up game on Tuesday. (Very few D-I teams are playing games today, Wednesday, although a couple conferences start their tournaments awhile.)

Well, three former Valley Leaguers went nuts yesterday in the batter’s box- UCF’s Dalton Wingo (Waynesboro 2018), ODU’s Will Morgan (Charlottesville 2017), and Tennessee’s Jay Charleston (Staunton 2017).

Let’s take a look:

  • Wingo went 4-5, with 3 runs, 3 home runs, and 6 RBIs. He hit a 3-run homer in the 1st, a solo shot in the 3rd, and a 2-run dinger in the 8th. He’s now hitting 286/368/458 in 192 at-bats, with 30 runs, 8 doubles, 2 triples, 7 home runs, 41 RBIs, and a 21/47 BB/K ratio. Will this be the game that springboards him to more power?
  • Morgan went bonkers in ODU’s 17-8 victory over VMI. He went 5-5, with 2 runs, a hit-by-pitch, a home run… and 8 RBIs. Eight! Will is now hitting 310/415/620 in 100 at-bats, with 17 runs, 7 doubles, 8 home runs, 26 RBIs, and a 17/33 BB/K ratio.
  • Charleston went nuts in a different way. In Tennessee’s 15-10 victory over Tennessee Tech, Jay went 3-5, with 3 runs, 2 doubles, a walk, 3 RBIs, and five stolen bases. That puts him at 227/322/276 in 203 at-bats, with 40 runs, 8 doubles, 1 triple, 22 RBIs, a 26/36 BB/K ratio, and 36 stolen bases in 40 attempts. Jay stole 39 bases in 41 attempts in 2017 for Staunton- the most steals in the last 15 years.
