So what happened on June 2nd?

Hitter of the Day

On June 2, 2019, Charlottesville’s Cayman Richardson went 4-5 against Staunton, with four runs scored, two RBIs, a triple, and a hit-by-pitch. He finished 2019 with a .344/.420/.435 slashline, with 36 runs scored, seven doubles, a triple, home run, and 13/23 BB/K ratio. He was named the league’s 16th best hitter by ATVL. Richardson played for three years at Virginia, putting up a total of .260/.332/.324 in 358 at-bats, with 61 runs scored, 12 doubles, four triples, a home run, and a 31/69 BB/K ratio. He did not play in 2020.

Pitcher of the Day

On June 2, 2017, New Market’s Nate Pawelczyk fired six no-hit, shutout innings against Purcellville while walking two and striking out three. The righthander from Winthrop did not get the win because his offense put up a goose egg, but he obviously did his best. In his four years in school (2016-2019), Pawelczyk went a combined 23-14, 4.02, with a 1.32 WHIP, 3.6 BB/9, and 8.0 K/9 in 282 1/3 innings pitched. He was scooped up in the 10th round of the 2019 draft by the Chicago White Sox, and saw action in 21 games, all in relief, with Great Falls in the Pioneer League last summer. Unfortunately, he was released in the Great Minor League Purge of May, 2020.
