Hitter of the Day
On June 7, 2014, Covington’s Blake Edwards went 5-5 against New Market, with five runs scored, a double, triple, stolen base, and two RBIs. (The Jacks won 13-6.) In 167 at-bats that summer, he hit .335/.386/.377, with 34 runs, five doubles, that one triple, 19 RBIs, and a 13/9 BB/K ratio. Edwards had a very good career at Columbus State, hitting .343/.396/.469 in 819 total at-bats, with 54 doubles, 15 home runs, 133 RBIs, and a 62/75 BB/K ratio. Alas, he did not play pro ball.
Pitcher of the Day
On June 7, 2016, Charlottesville’s Wil Hartsell took the mound against Front Royal and threw eight one-hit, shutout innings, with one walk and eight strikeouts. He got the win in the Sox’s 6-0 victory. For the summer, he went 2-3, 2.90 in 40 1/3 innings, with a 0.943 WHIP, 1.3 BB/9, and 8.9 K/9. ATVL named him the 4th best starter. Hartsell spent parts of five seasons at Charleston Southern, where he went a total of 9-6, 4.27 in 122 1/3 innings, with a 1.251 WHIP, 2.4 BB/9, and 9.6 K/9. He did not play pro ball.
