Hitter of the Day

On June 12, 2016, Purcellville’s Ray Hernandez went 2-2 against Winchester, with four runs scored, four walks, and two doubles. 4D Sports’ favorite player of all time, Hernandez hit .313/.366/.448 that summer in 134 at-bats, along with 23 runs scored, six doubles, four home runs, and 21 RBIs. He also went 2-4 with a double in the All-Star game for good measure. After four productive years at Alabama State, Hernandez was picked in the 29th round of the 2018 draft by the Atlanta Braves. He spent two summers in the minors before getting released. He has signed to play for an Independent League team for 2020.

Pitcher of the Day

On June 12, 2016, Covington’s Calyb King fired six no-hit, shutout innings against Winchester. He walked three and struck out eight in the 5-0 win. He went 3-1, 3.03 over the summer, with 28 strikeouts in 32 2/3 innings, and was named the 14th best starting pitcher. King went 2-3, 5.02 in six starts this spring for West Virginia Tech. He’ll be a senior in 2021.
