Hayden McCutcheon, the 2015 Valley League Pitcher of the Year, passed away December 23, 2021, at his home in South Carolina.

McCutcheon pitched for the College of Charleston for three years, 2014-2016, and for Spartanburg Methodist in 2017. For Spartanburg, he went 6-1, 2.30 in 58 2/3 innings, with only 10 walks against 73 strikeouts.

He was fantastic for Charlottesville in the summer of 2015, going 3-1, 1.74, with a 0.972 WHIP, 2.7 BB/9, and 11.3 K/9 in 46 1/3 innings. In addition to VBL’s Pitcher of the Year, he was also ATVL’s #1 starter.

The Charlottesville Tom Sox organization mourns the loss of Hayden McCutcheon, who passed away on Thursday. Hayden was an integral part of the inaugural Tom Sox team in 2015. In addition to his exceptional play on the field, he was a wonderful representative of our organization. His contagious smile and positive attitude made everyone around him a better player and a better person. Our thoughts and deepest sympathies go out to Hayden’s family and friends.
