Our post today is about the 12th best reliever in the 2021 Valley League season, Charlottesville’s Carter Spivey.
Spivey, a 6-foot-2 righthander from East Carolina, went 2-0, 2.57 in the summer, with a .180 BAA, 1.000 WHIP, 3.2 BB/9, and 9.6 K/9 in 14 innings. Of pitchers surveyed for this list, he finished eighth in BAA, fifth in WHIP, and tenth in BB/9. His best game was on June 25 against Staunton, when he fired three shutout, no-hit innings while walking one and striking out two. He also threw a shutout inning in the playoffs.
From Aldie, Virginia, Spivey has seen limited time on the mound for the Pirates. In 2019, he threw six innings; in 2020, 3 2/3; and in 2021, 14 2/3 (but he did strike out 15 batters).
