The 11th best relief pitcher in the 2021 Valley League season is Front Royal’s Sal Ferro.
Ferro went 2-3, 2.89 in 28 innings for the Cardinals, with a .213 BAA, 1.179 WHIP, 3.2 BB/9, and 9.6 K/9. Of pitchers on this list, he finished first in innings and tenth in BB/9. His best game was on June 23 against the heavy-hitting Winchester Royals, when he fired 4 1/3 one-hit, shutout innings, with two walks and two strikeouts. He also threw a shutout inning in the All-Star game in July.
Ferro spent three seasons at Long Island, although he didn’t pitch very much in any of them. In 2018, he totaled 14 1/3 innings; he missed 2019 due to an injury; in 2020, he threw four innings; in 2021, he finished 17 innings. He was named to the NEC Academic Honor Roll in the spring of 2019.
He is currently a grad student, looking for a place to play- it surely seems that he could pitch somewhere, given his summer!
