The South Carolina Gamecocks are 7-1 so far this season, and have outscored its opponents 65 to 36.
This is in no small part because of former New Market (2018) outfielder and Valley League MVP Andrew Eyster, who has started off his fifth-year season with an explosion a bit reminiscent of Wes Clarke in 2021. In 37 at-bats over those eight games, Eyster is hitting .514/.550/.865, with 10 runs scored, four doubles, three home runs, and an amazing 17 RBIs. He leads his squad in average, slugging, doubles, home runs, and RBIs. (Clarke hit 23 home runs and drove in 55 runs in 57 games in ’21)
While we’re here, we can mention also that Eyster is helped by former Charlottesville player Kevin Madden (2019), who is hitting .310/.459/.483 over 29 at-bats himself, with seven runs scored, a triple, home run, and four RBIs.
I imagine that both of these guys will be in pro ball around this time next year!
