Maybe it’s the air in Charlottesville. Or the water. (Or, you know, the recruiting.) If you were impressed with Kirby McMullen’s lack of walks, get a load of our 9th best reliever, Cody Maw, from Charleston Southern:
That’s a 0/37 BB/K ratio right there! So out of pitchers on this list, Cody, a 6-foot lefty, finished 10th in innings pitched, tied for 1st in BB/9 (with McMullen), and 5th in K/9. He pitched one inning in the All-Star game, and left after that weekend.
Cody is a senior at Southern:
In 2017, Cody led the Big South with only 8 walks all season.
Also, Cody has pitched in two different summer leagues before he cme to the Valley. In 2016, he threw for the Licking County Settlers in the Great Lakes Collegiate League, and then joined the Edenton Steamers in the Coastal Plain League in 2017. His stats:
In his three summer league experiences combined, Cody has a 17/121 BB/K ratio! I think he has the strike-throwing thing down, eh?
