The 4th best starter in the 2019 Valley League season is Winchester’s Logan Walters!

Our fifth straight starter who is transferring, Walters has moved from Motlow State to Memphis this summer to continue his college career. And Memphis is getting a good one:

Win ERA W L G GS IP H R ER BB K BAVG WIP BB/9 K/9
2019 3.55 3 1 8 6 38.0 31 18 15 11 42 0.222 1.105 2.6 9.9
Play 6.75 0 1 1 1 4.0 9 6 3 3 3 0.391 3.000 6.8 6.8

Among pitchers considered for this list, Walters finished third in the league in innings pitched, fourth in WHIP, ninth in batting average against, fifth in BB/9, and eighth in K/9. (That’s top eight in every category except ERA.)

He had the best start of the entire summer on July 1st against Purcellville, when he blasted through 7 2/3 shutout innings, allowing only two hits, zero walks, and striking out 10. He earned the win and a game score of 85- the best of the summer by two points. He was Pitcher of the Day for his troubles as well.

He was also Pitcher of the Day July 20 against Staunton after 6 2/3 innings, five hits, one unearned run, one walk, and six strikeouts. He was named second team All-Valley after the season.

Walters has been All Tennessee Community College Athletic Association (TCCAA) in both of his college seasons:

ERA W L G GS IP H R ER BB K WHIP BB/9 K/9
2018 3.82 7 2 14 14 75.3 82 49 32 39 72 1.607 4.7 8.6
2019 4.58 5 3 11 10 55.0 57 35 28 29 63 1.564 4.7 10.3

It will be interesting to see if Walters can follow in the Memphis footsteps of Jonathan Bowlan (New Market 2016) and Drew Crosby (Winchester 2015) in pro ball!
