Two of the best hitters in the past two Valley League seasons, Wes Clarke and Andrew Eyster, had tremendous 2021 debuts for South Carolina in its 12-1 rout of Dayton yesterday.
Clarke, the 2nd best hitter in the Valley League for Waynesboro in 2019, hit a three-run home run to start the scoring for the Gamecocks in the first inning, and also had a double, single, and two walks on his way to a 3-3, four RBI game.
Eyster hit a grand slam in the third, putting the game away for South Carolina. The league MVP and top hitter in the league in 2018 for New Market, Eyster went 3-4 overall, with the aforementioned home run, a triple, and two runs scored.
Unfortunately, the major damage done by both Clarke and Eyster were at the expense of another Valley League alumni, Hunter Wolfe (Strasburg 2017), who surrendered eight earned runs in five innings pitched.
The teams face off again at 1 PM today.
Wow…yeah. Andrew Eyster “The Hitting Meister.”
